Above Sea Level Magazine Issue 2 is available now on loremnotipsum.com. The brand new issue of Above Sea Level dedicated to Portugal. Issue 2 celebrates the people driving change in Portugal — from winemakers, through to food producers, chefs and architects. We begin our journey on the islands — Madeira and the Azores — then move from the north to the south of the mainland, charting the people we meet and the changing landscapes we see along the way.

We explore a different country or region for each issue — California (Issue 1) and Portugal (Issue 2) — and believe that by looking at wine in the context of food, design, people and place that we are able to create a more balanced, meaningful approach to an otherwise specialist subject.

Contents: Above Sea Level Magazine – Issue 2 (Portugal)

  • Volcanic vines — writer Jacob Charles Wilson explores the individual nature of two Portuguese islands — Madeira and Pico — and the challenges of volcanic winemaking with the Azores Wine Company
  • A series of visual food memories from some of Portugal’s most talented chefs — Leandro Carreira, António Galapito and Vasco Coelho Santos
  • Nature’s Way — writer David Michon talks to winemaker Mateus Nicolau de Almeida and architecture practice, Skrei, about the cross disciplinary nature of their work
  • Secrets of the Algarve — we unearth one of the most exciting and underrated regions for making wine in Portugal.

Above Sea Level magazine is a publication from the UK and events platform designed to start a different type of conversation around wine. By looking at wine in the context of food, design, people and places our hope is that it becomes an easier, more natural part of our conversation. This is something we explore through our magazine, events and project collaborations with other like minded people, brands and initiatives. Our aim is to connect people with wine in an authentic, memorable way. We work with wine, food and lifestyle brands and publishers on a project-by-project basis and specialise in content creation, project development and event strategy.
