The Black Explorer Volume 3 (Africa is not a country, part 1) is available now on loremnotipsum.com. Taking charge of the narrative that surrounds our beloved continent, we set out to curate a selection of stories of exploration, discovery, reconnection and admiration for the land that connects us all.

Tired of the one-sided exploitative looks with which mainstream media likes to represent Africa, we decided to instead stray off the beaten path and pass the mic back to us, the children of Africa and its diaspora. We aimed to fit all 54 African countries in one issue, but quickly realised that that’s an impossible task if we wanted to give each country the space and care their story deserves.

Therefore, we present the first chapter of our ‘Africa is not a country’ trilogy. Contributors are: ‍Matt Kayem, Kofi Dotse, Eugene Yiga, Nyasha Bhobo, Danielle Kouassi, C. Nichole, Erwin Ayota, Stan Thomas, Mariam Kargbo, Julia Mouketo, Adebissi Bello, Aaron Imuere, Jumoke Munu, Ella Paradis, Sophie M., Pelumi Nubi, Neo Mokuene, Jessé Manuel.

The Black Explorer provides a multimedia platform for the black traveller’s narrative to exist globally. It champions the Black travel community by sharing our experiences in the media for all to see. They are here to inform, inspire and advocate for the intrepid explorers encouraging them to venture out and seek new experiences. The Black Explorer is here to amplify the profile of Black travellers, our stories and our craft, to inspire the travel industry to see Black travellers and recognise our experiences, to connect with you and take you on journeys though the lens of the Black creator. The people behind The Black Explorer don’t want to be just another voice added to promote over tourism, instead they want to inspire you to make travel decisions that are least harmful and respectful to the environments you choose to explore.
