Jocks & Nerds Issue 14 is available now on loremnotipsum.com. This issue’s cover star is Justin Robertson – famed musician and DJ – who came to prominence from the emerging dance scene of late 1980s Manchester.
Justin Robertson has recorded under is own name as well as the monikers Lionrock, Revtone, the Prankster and, currently, the Deadstock 33s. Laurie Cunningham was the first black player for the England 1st XI. A gifted dancer and natty dresser, his balletic style and swift pace inspired a whole generation of footballers in the 1980s and 1990s. Killed tragically young in a car accident, he is remembered in a biopic starring Ashley Walters. Nicky Siano started nightclub the Gallery in New York in the early 1970s, where he tutored Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles. He went on the be resident DJ at the legendary Studio 54. Siano will play a one-off night in association with Jocks&Nerds in April. A documentary about the club will also be screened. Mick Rock, one of the music world’s most recognised photographers, started out shooting the likes of Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd before working with Iggy Pop and David Bowie amongst others. Still working today, we spoke to him ahead of the release of a new book of his work.
