Alla Carta No. 17 (FW20), the Pinoccio Issue is available now on loremnotipsum.com. Once upon a time, there was Pinocchio. A seed, a pine nut, a piece of wood. I say ‘was’ because Pinocchio the puppet is no more. Pinocchio became a boy. The protagonist of Carlo Collodi’s 1881 novel is nothing more than an immature being who undergoes a process of self-transformation through a series of adventures. In this issue of Alla Carta we too, puppets of the self just like him, wanted to undergo, explore and analyse the possibilities for individuals to develop self-awareness over the course of their lives. The adventures of the famous puppet offer us a means to emphasise the dialogue, or rather, the internal monologue of our multiple selves.

We snuck into their bedrooms and got into bed with our Pinocchios, into those most intimate and personal corners. We ventured into the controversial world of social toys and we broke down this puppet, analysed it piece by piece and reassembled it. However, like all fairy tales, our story comes to an end. On his last adventure, Pinocchio is finally rewarded, he becomes human and succeeds in his personal quest. When are we emancipated children and infantile adults to consider ourselves complete? We, the never-ending ‘possibilities’ of a changing society, must take courage and go on with our adventures.

Alla Carta is a bi-annual international publication that approaches high-end fashion, art and design in an unique Italian way. We truly believe in paper, carta in Italian. At a time when the web may appear to be the only valid avenue of communication, Alla Carta is an ode to the most precious of mediums and to the most precious moment of the day: our interviews always take place around a table, to celebrate one of the oldest Italian habits, conviviality.
