Contra Journal – Issue 1

Contra Journal Issue 1 is available now on loremnotipsum.com. The first issue, titled Displacement, explores the visual response to current and past migrations. Issue 1 of Contra is designed by Our Place and includes work from Harley Weir, Forensic Architecture, Oscar Murillo, Akram Khan, Human Rights Watch, Seba Kurtis, Lucy Wood, Embassy for the Displaced, Milja Lindberg, Pierre Mohamed-Petit, System of Systems, Mike Merkenschlager, Konstantin Zhukov and Joshua Brown. Contra Journal Issue 1 is available with two different cover pages: Harley Weir and Seba Kurtis. Contra is a new publication exploring the relationship between art and conflict. Published annually, each issue of Contra will take a theme related to conflict and consider its role in contemporary visual culture. Our first issue, titled Displacement, features content related to past, present and future migrations.

Our first issue, titled Displacement, features content related to past, present and future migrations. Contra brings a variety of voices and viewpoints into the conversation. Through a mixture of essays, interviews, photo essays and original artwork, Contra aims to widen the discussion about imagery and its relationship to power, violence and inequality. With this in mind, our target readership is not limited to those that work in arts and media – Contra is open to everyone interested in the creation and consumption of visual ideas.
