Contra is a new publication exploring the relationship between art and conflict. Published annually, each issue of Contra will take a theme related to conflict and consider its role in contemporary visual culture. Our first issue, titled Displacement, features content related to past, present and future migrations. Contra brings a variety of voices and viewpoints into the conversation. Through a mixture of essays, interviews, photo essays and original artwork, Contra aims to widen the discussion about imagery and its relationship to power, violence and inequality. With this in mind, our target readership is not limited to those that work in arts and media – Contra is open to everyone interested in the creation and consumption of visual ideas.
