Sidetracked Magazine Volume 18 is available now on loremnotipsum.com. A new collection of thought provoking stories of adventure, exploration and experience.
The cover choice for this edition was unusually easy to make. James Bowden’s image is a reflection of how the world has changed since our last issue. We have spent more time inside than out in order to survive the invisible storm sweeping around the planet. For many of us, windows have become our only portals to the great beyond.
Yet windows have always been gateways for our imaginations. We look outwards, then turn inwards to dream. We are disciples of T. E. Lawrence, his ‘dreamers of the day’ – be that from the inside of a remote cabin, within the confines of a high-rise, or the interior of a railway carriage. Time by windows is time well spent.
The outdoors is still there waiting for us, albeit with retreating glaciers, shrinking ice caps, and vanishing species. Human impacts have now been felt on every square mile of the Earth, above and now beneath the waves. We have ventured into the habitats of every living thing. The global hitch-hiker currently sweeping around the planet didn’t come to us. We went to it. And then brought it home.
