Ob es nicht eigentlich egal ist. Doch wo fängt sie an, wo hört sie auf, die Grenze zwischen Relevantem und Irrelevantem? Und gibt es nichts Wichtigeres, mit dem sich ein fast 20-köpfiges Redaktionsteam ein Jahr lang beschäftigen könnte, nur um ein Heft zu produzieren, das sich dann auch noch mit dem offensiv Egalen beschäftigt? Wir sagen: vielleicht, aber egal. Deshalb geht es in Ausgabe 7 der Epilog nur um eins: die totale Irrelevanz.

Beginnt ja eh alles im Nichts, das uns ein wenig abhandengekommen ist, weil: Nichts ist nicht produktiv und wir beschäftigen uns ja gern. Martin Goldschmidt hat sich auf die Suche nach der Null gemacht, Cord Riechelmann erkundet das Irrelevante der Evolutionstheorie. Anja Rützel schwingt den Müllkontrollstab. Bernhard Jarosch legt die Wahrnehmungsfilter ab, und Birthe Mühlhoff erklärt, wie Gott und Schmeißfliege zusammenhängen. Was Mads Pankow ziemlich egal ist: Er widmet sich der totalen Gleichgültigkeit, Hendrik Otremba hingegen der Möglichkeit, irrelevante Kunst zu schaffen. Steffen Greiner weint um das Ende des Kanons und freut sich auf das Egal-Werden von Sex. Hannah Lühmann hat zum ersten Mal Justin Bieber gehört und erklärt ihrem Vater Marilyn Manson. Kai Schnier versucht sich als Brausetablette, Aufgabenstellung: verschwinden. Romain Mader hat „fette“ Karren porträtiert. Chris Möller spricht mit einem Psychologen über Zwangsneurosen. Jennifer Beck feiert den Körper als effektivste aller Irrelevanz-Produktionsmaschinen. Und fordert: keinen Applaus mehr, für niemand!

Am Ende der Arbeit an dieser Ausgabe sitzt die Redaktion in Kuhbrücke, Gemeinde Küstriner Vorland, und findet sich furchtbar wichtig: das Cover, die Typo, die Releaseparty. Darum ist es manchmal gut, irgendwo hinzugehen, wo wir egal sind. Wo alles egal ist, wenn auch nur als schöne Utopie. Dabei ist Jacke wie Hose doch noch gar kein Outfit. Und die Wurscht kann so egal auch nicht sein, ist schließlich das einzige Ding mit zwei Enden. Wir haben nur eins.

DIE EPILOG richtet sich an junge Menschen im Wandel, die sich mit der stetigen Veränderung arrangieren. Umbrüche und Unübersichtlichkeit empfinden sie jedoch nicht als Bedrohung, sondern als Chance für ungehemmte Experimentierfreude und Individualisierung. Die Leserinnen und Leser von DIE EPILOG sind reflektiert und verantwortungsbewusst, ohne jedoch über diese Eigenschaften ihren Lebensinhalt definieren zu wollen. Wichtiger ist ihnen der Unterhaltungswert kultureller und gesellschaftlicher Bildung. An ihre persönliche Umgebung stellen sie erhebliche qualitative und ästhetische Ansprüche. Dabei stehen sie als early adopter Neuerungen in Kultur und Lifestyle besonders affirmativ gegenüber. Mit der Epilog blicken wir über die Gegenwart hinaus in eine unvermeidlich heranrückende Zukunft. Konkrete Phänomene unseres Alltags geben in kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlich fundierten Betrachtungen jene Entwicklungen preis, die zunächst auf eine aktuelle, aber immer auch schon auf die nächste Gesellschaft verweisen. Im Fokus der Zeitschrift liegen dabei weder eine elitäre Hochkultur – die häufig eher auf gestern denn auf morgen verweist – noch der abstrakte theoretische Diskurs selbst. Ziel ist es, den großen Wandel in den kleinen und alltäglichen Dingen zu entdecken.
