Vestoj Magazine Issue 10 (On Doubt) is available now on loremnotipsum.com. Vestoj ‘On Doubt’ examines the crippling kind of doubt, and the kind that propels us forward and the fact that we can’t know which is which. When it comes to fashion specifically, we explore who and what we have faith in and why. What keeps us from doubting the system, and if we did, would it crumble? The issue looks at the disillusion that seems so prevalent in the industry now, and the great apprehension about how to best move forward. And, on a smaller scale – the shopping experience. Do I like it? Do I need it? Can I afford it? Is it ‘me’?

Vestoj (meaning ‘clothing’ in Esperanto) is an annual journal about dress, bridging the gap between academia, literature and industry within fashion. Vestoj On Capital looks at all forms of value or assets: financial, human, cultural, social – you name it. We explore how talent is developed and harnessed in fashion, and how this now intersects with branding (and self-branding) which has become so important in all aspects of culture. The issue also examines how value flows between symbolic assets like taste or beauty or cool and economic profit. And how the traditional schism between cultural and financial capital (cool versus money) has been replaced by a much more self-consciously positive – or nuanced and complex – relationship between art and fashion.

Vestoj is a forum where academia, the museum world and the fashion industry can work together and with active communication. We write about the cultural phenomenon that is fashion in a manner that opens up for dialogue between theory and practice in order to raise awareness for fashion as a cultural phenomena and field of research and cultivate an even greater understanding for the discipline. Vestoj will exist outside of seasonally-based trends and news-focused articles. Instead we aim to encourage and champion the critical and independent voice within fashion as well as absolute creative freedom. In order to ensure that we remain free in thought and action Vestoj will have no advertising. Vestoj Magazine focuses solely on sartorial matters, bringing together academia and industry in a bid to combine academic theory, critical thinking and a bit of good old fashioned glamour. Vestoj is produced under the patronage of London College of Fashion.
