Sandwich Magazine is written as a celebration of the often overlooked, but universally beloved culinary creation, the sandwich. Each issue features a specific sandwich along with cultural reporting, photo essays, and interviews on the most surprising and creative corners of the food world at large. Our first issue pays homage to the BLT (Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato), possibly the greatest sandwich of all time. This magazine is our gift to sandwich lovers everywhere.

Content

  • If music, Shakespeare mentioned, is the food of love, play on. No doubt he wrote that quote bobbing his head to the beat of a nearby minstrel. Taking heed of the bard’s words, the fifth issue of Sandwich Magazine celebrates the combination of music and food with YouTube sensation DJ BBQ on the cover. He cooked us up a delicious brisket in his back garden for the cover shoot while we chatted about his long history of cooking on the grill, his past life taking a barbecue on location as a snowboard film maker, music video producer and host of the BAFTA-winning extreme sports show, ‘RAD’ and his current world of hosting, cooking and DJing at festivals as well as being a best selling author.
  • Award-winning author Will Self wrote a short piece of fiction about brisket to open the magazine and one of Britain’s best baker David Wright scolds us about the scandalous amount of bread we waste every day (it is an unholy amount).
  • We travel to Île de Noirmoutier in the Bay of Biscay to discover the millenia-old traditions of making salt and speak to the world record holder for the tallest freestanding sandwich/eminent creative scientist Dr Irwin Eydelnant about the future of food.
  • The music theme continues throughout this Brisket issue with music writer Oliver Keens discussing whether hip-hop beef is just a load of marketing baloney, the all-conquering rapper Ashnikko, Bollywood icon and singer Shruti Haasan, and multi-Grammy award winner Thundercat tell us their favourite barbecue dishes in as three of our Dream BBQ guests, while world-famous DJ, award-winning chef and barbecue fanatic Seth Troxler to tell us why he loves cooking on the grill and what music he listens to while he does it.
